KSET briefly known as Karnataka State Eligibility Test. It is an opportunity for all the aspirants of lecturers. University of Mysore is the Nodal Agency for the conducting this exam. This nodal agency is UGC recognized. This test starts on 7th September 2010 with a notice No. F.7-1/2005(NET). This test strictly follows the guidelines given by UGC-NET. The test takes place once in a year. It takes place in thirty-nine subjects. It takes place in eleven nodal centers in Karnataka. The certificate given to the students who cleared the test has lifetime validity.

KSET Eligibility Criteria
Board has decided category wise cut-off in Master’s degree for eligibility. For general category it is 55%. For all other categories it is 50%. Candidates have to fulfill this eligibility criterion anyhow. The candidate who is appearing in Master’s or result is delayed can give KSET. Eligibility Certificate of KSET issued after the proof of eligibility criterion. Candidates have to proof of eligibility within the two years from KSET date. The candidate can choose subject in KSET exam relevant to his/her P.G. degree. Candidates other than general category have to give their attested copies of caste certificate. Students should fulfill all eligibility criteria. Candidates can’t choose the subject in KSET exam which is already chosen by him/her in previous attempts. This test has no age limits.
KSET Application form
We are here providing all steps to apply for KSET. But before applying make sure you have:
- Your scanned passport size photo in JPEG format {size – 206×240(H×V) pixels}. The size must not exceed 300kb.
- An Email ID for registration.
- All your Academic Certificates.
Now after this follow the following steps:
- Go to the official website of KSET (http://kset.uni-mysore.ac.in).
- Register your Email ID through Sign Up process.
- Fill the required personal and educational details.
- Choose your nodal centre and required KSET exam details.
- Mention the required PG course details. Either passed or appearing.
- Now pay the KSET fee online on website. Bank charges may apply. Take print out of receipt of payment.
- You can also pay fee offline in the nearest SBI branch with E-Challan.
- After payment wait for two working days.
- Then download your application form on A4 size sheet (3 pages).
- Application form consist of:
- Application form– you have to submit this to your nodal centre.
- Attendance slip- you have to submit this to your nodal centre.
- Admission card– you have to keep this with you.
- Now go to your nodal centre. Submit application form with receipt of online payment or E-Challan. Also submit attested copies of:
- Class 12th Mark-sheet.
- Your cast certificate and PWD certificate (if applicable)
- Your PG mark-sheet. Students who are appearing in PG can submit after passing the PG exam.
- Affix your passport size photo on the application form. Sign across the photo.
- Attest that photo by a Gazetted Officer with seal.
KSET Application Fee
Application fee changes category wise. General category fee is one thousand and fifty only. For category – IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB fee is rupees eight hundred and fifty only. Other category – I (SC, ST, PWD) fee is rupees five hundred and fifty only. You have to pay late fee of rupees one hundred and fifty after last date. For fee exemption candidates have to give attested copy of caste certificate. You can pay via internet banking, debit/credit cards, SBI buddy, and cash/cheques via SBI E-Challan. You can’t pay via money order, DD, IPO etc. This fee is non-refundable.
KSET Syllabus
KSET exam syllabus is same as of UGC-NET. The KSET exam syllabus is available on its official website. Here we are providing simple steps to download Syllabus:

- Go on study info bar and select syllabus.
- Here you will find a list of all subjects.
- Download the syllabus of general paper first.
- Then download the syllabus of subject you have chosen.
KSET Selection Process
The top six percent candidates appeared in three papers of KSET exam. Marks criteria will decide on category wise. For general category, at least 40% in every paper. For all other categories, at least 35% in every paper. Candidate’s eligibility checked through following reservation policy of state government:
- General(Unreserved) – 47.50%
- OBC (Non – Creamy Layer, cat – I, IIA, IIB, IIIA, IIIB ) – 27.00%
- SC – 15.00%
- ST – 7.50%
- PWD – 3.00%
KSET Exam Pattern
KSET exam contains three papers. All the three papers will have multiple choice questions (MCQ). Each question will carry two marks .The Exam will take place in two sessions.

- Paper – I , General Paper:
This paper will be of general nature. This paper will test your teaching/research aptitude. The paper will tests your reasoning ability, comprehension, different thinking. It will ask from general awareness of Karnataka State. General awareness includes geography, history, economics, social economic etc.
From sixty questions you have to attempt only fifty questions. Evaluation of first fifty attempted question will take place. Maximum marks for this paper is 100 marks. All the questions are of multiple choices. Time allotted for this paper is seventy-five minutes.
- Paper – II , Subject Paper:
This paper will carry questions from your chosen subject. This paper will carry fifty questions .All questions will be compulsory. Maximum marks for this paper is 100 marks. All the questions are of multiple choices. Time allotted for this paper is seventy-five minutes.
- Paper – III , Subject paper(in detail):
This paper will carry questions from your subject in-depth. This paper will carry seventy-five questions. All questions in this paper will be compulsory. Maximum marks for this paper is one hundred and fifty marks. All the questions are of multiple choices. Time allotted for this paper is one hundred and fifty minutes.
In case of any doubt in Kannada translation of questions, English version will be final.
KSET Admit Card
Admit card is important on the examination day. It gives all the information of the candidate individually. It has your DOB, name, registration no. etc. Without this examiner doesn’t allow you to give exam. It helps in finding out the fake candidates. You should carry anyone of your photo-identity proof with this. If admit card’s details doesn’t match with your details, contact your nodal centre.
